I think the carbon can fuel breather on Trevor is blocked or malfunctioning - the engine dies now and again, but only when the fuel tank is completely full. Manually venting the tank brings it back to life.

I'm getting an excessive vaccuum in the tank (you can see it distorting), and the fuel pump is making mucho noise. So to me it all points to the breather.

But, here's the rub... it's intermittent. I'm sure a little birdy mentioned that the carbon can is an electronic gizmo that vents the tank periodically? If so, I guess it can go wrong. And how hard is it to replace?

And the final question - where is the bl00dy thing??!!

I wasnt aware that the Carbon Can thingy was electronic.
I thought it was merely a unit which vents the tank all the time.
I have heard of venting problems in the Chim and i alway keep my petrol cap not fully tight to relieve any pressure. I think you can even modify the cap to remove a little of the sealing washer to help.

Unfortunately i'm no expert on the Carbon can itself..

IIRC it's situated in the front passenger wing! Don't think it's got any electronics.

If you got a vacuum problem try leaving the cap in locked and not fully tightened position!

It worked for me.

It is electronic. According to Steve Heath's 'bible' it's in the front offside wing (or it may be in front of the radiator).

Thanks, all. Another bl00dy design classic then... "first take a carbon can, then build a car around it". Ho hum - no wonder the dealer didn't want to look at it. Time to break out the Bible, I guess.

accelerating @3000rpm when warm I think. Mine is replaced with a Rover400 variant (cant tell the difference actually.)

Your tank should still vent the can just traps the gas / liquid but has an overflow?? to the atmosphere.
