Just got me an early 4.3 Chim - the previous owner had been told he should run it on standard unleaded. This is my third V8 engined TVR but the first time I have encountered this(normally super unleaded/Optimax) - the car seems to run great but any comments?

My 94 4.0 runs best on standard unleaded as well, tried Super UL and couldn't tell the difference, tried Optimax and after a few tankfulls it began to run like a pig and was doing about 5mpg, performance may be down slightly but real world driving it's not exactly slow
And when performance tested against a 4.3 Griff running on Super UL it only pulled away after we were well into licence loseing speeds

It shouldn't as the cars were originally set up for 4 star and need the octane. The lead is not an issue.

Covered in the bible and the Unleaded FA on my web site. www.tvrbooks.co.uk

well i seem to go the other way ,i have an early 4.3 chimaera and running it on standard unleaded makes it a bit wooly ,smoother but slightly down on ooommmfh .but on optimax it is nice and angry ,well it feels sharper and as though there is more pull, and as for a 4.0 keeping up with me i have to say no way ,from 0-160 i have blown a 4.0 into the gutter ( maybe somone off here) ,so i should say that in my experience optimax feels better than standard ,it should not make the car run worse ,as it is only petrol with an adictive......ian....

I've been adicted to petrol for ages.

It actually says next to the petrol cap on my 450 to use super unleaded only. Do all later Chims have this message? or just the 450s and 500s?

All the Chims have it. You can even buy spare stickers - it has an official part number.
