I've used SSC for the last 5 years for my Chimaera servicing.

My Tamora went there (to the new Sp6 service department) in March for its 12k service.

Jon, the owner, always has time for a chat and lets me look around all the cars he has for sale.

He's a straight dealer and I think his prices are very good.

I'm sure you'll have no problems buying off him.

thanks,
i have chatted to jon and found him a nice bloke, but i'm not very good at this sort of thing so was canvassing for opinions, his prices are also quite a bit more than buying private and i'm wondering what i am getting for the additional wonga ( he said full check on purchase, all the bits sorting out and a 3 month warranty) but i dont know how that compares to using someone like rob ingleby?
cheers

When you're buying a TVR you need to know a lot about the previous owners and that car's history.

If the dealer knows the car and he's honest (as I think SSC are) then you're onto a winner and you can negotiate the price etc.

If he doesn't or you go for a private buy then you will have to do your own homework including ringing up all previous owners and dealers who have been looking after the car.

In that case people like Rob Ingleby are probably worth their fee - but I have no experience of using his service.

Why don't you post on the Yorkshire region section - maybe someone could go with you to check over any cars that you are thinking of buying.

As with all things it is a balance between risk and cost.

I used Rob Ingelby to source my second Chimaera in April as I did not have the time. He found me a total minter but after a week of intensive use (1000 miles plus) the engine started to misfire and finally needed a new cam. Even after what I paid for the car privately and the excellent discount Rob secured me I am quids in compared with a dealer price.(where there might have been some limited warranty)

The other thing is to ensure you can access a good independant specialist for servicing. Shane at SFR in Stockport is excellent and very fair both with his hours and rate. Rob is always happy to talk to a prospective buyer and operates a source or just inspect service. His email is www.findasportscar.co.uk
