Clutch started slipping, but only whilst under full/near full load. As soon as I noticed the problem drove the car home nice and slowly. Once home I got the car in the air and started taking my p&j appart. Being overly optimistic I just ordered a clutch plate hoping that I had avoided the dreaded scoring of the cover plate. Once appart it has become obvious that I have avoided the scoring I feared, however the clutch plate is in great condition and shows very little sign of wear. The clutch cover has two high spots each about the size of a two pence piece pertruding about 0.5mm. This is the only problem I can see.

Firstly, has anyone seen a clutch cover wear like this before? Secondly, is there a problem causing this elsewhere that I should repairing before putting her back together or will a new clutch plate and cover do the job?

I had exactly the same problem with a clutch, when a friend had a look he said there was no free play..

To solve this I spaced back the slave cylinder from the block with 5mm washers. This instantly fixed the problem. The clutch was brand new and looked identical but started to slip nearly straight away. I couldnt believe what an easy fix this was...

Ideally you dont want to have to do this but it saved me from dropping the clutch back out and wasting another £200 on a new clutch. And the bonus of using my car in the sun!!

Another question why do TVR's always break when its Sunny and you want to use then?

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the help, I will put back together with the new parts and a pack of washers to hand. I'm not quite sure how TVR's know when to go wrong, but mine always breaks on the last dull day before a week or two of glorious sun shine. Maybe I should put up a post whenever mine goes wrong so that everyone else knows to get their cars out ready for the imminent sunshine????
