Well generally I'll not hear a bad word said against my beloved chim yet to my utter embarrasment on Friday I was travelling on the M62 over to Oldham for the Round table beer walk ( what a day I recommend it to anyone) in the afternoon rush hour, hood down sunglasses on you know the sketch generally loving myself, I'd even waxed her so she was looking particularily gorgeous when..... wait for it the revs dropped off as we were slowing in traffic middle lane and she suddenly stops!!! engine cuts out immediately tried to restart her electrics work yet no priming nothing......as I begin to sweat and grow increasingly vexed with passers by luckily a policeman arrives who kindly pushed me onto the hard shoulder were upon I called my recovery company.

Now this has happened before never in the middle of a motorway! occasionally after a long trip on stopping and turning the engine off on trying to restart nothing happens. I had the AA man take a look at it who informed me that it was a solenoid which sticks and can be dissengaged by simply tapping the housing its a bugger to reach but it can be done with a skewer , knitting needle etc. Now on Friday I had nothing with me yet after 15 minutes I tried the car and she started again no problem befrore the AA arrived and so off I went to Oldham on arriving and parking up I tried here again and again she wouldnt go.

Firstly has anyone else experienced this and if so is it a case of simply replacing the said solenoid. I asked Sports and sepcialist cars of Boroughbridge about this a while ago and John sais they couldnt see anything wrong!! well after friday I must get this sorted as even though I love her it was a tad embarrising and worse pretty dangerous...

Just out of interest have you had the 'hot start' fix done? It may be related as some of the symptoms sound familiar.

It's not the 'hot start' problem: that doesn't cause the engine to die, but try the things I suggested in this thread this morning.

When it won't start, do you hear the fuel pump prime for a second or two when you turn the ignition on? (It can be hard to hear if you're by the side of the road with traffic thundering past but maybe you can hear it better now.)

Probably not the hot start issue I know but if you are unaware of it then it can't hurt to have it fitted - parts cost £20 from mod-wise.

Essentially when the engine gets very hot a wire that runs from ignition barrel to starter motor dissipates the signal so the engine will not fire – the mod wise kit bypasses that system so the engine will always start no matter how hot - that is a basic explanation I am sure someone will give you a far more technical explanation!

Could be something else is causing your car to cut out and then the hot start issue is affecting your ability to restart…..could be……..but for £20 what the heck has to be worth a try and avoids that ever becoming an issue for you in the future.

I think you've got a combination of the Hot-Start Problem and a bad fuel pump relay.

Your dealer should be able to get you a couple of new relays and you can get the hot-start kit from David at mod-wise.
