Hi,
I'm a new boy to all this so please be gentle! I have just bought a 1998 400 Chimaera. When trying to shut the boot, it will only stay shut after the second / third push down on the boot lid. Slamming it doesn't make any difference either. Any ideas?
Thanks,
N&N.

Normal. Mine have been the same, there's a technique, sort of a forcefull push instead of a slam.

Is this the joy I have to look forward too when owning a TVR?

Think of it as a safety feature.
Imagine you've just slammed the boot shut and realised you've left the keys in it!

lol, I used to cringe when someone went to shut my boot who didn't know TVR's and tried to shut it with a slam! Just rest it down and give it a firm push and it will click shut. Very simple when you get it right. Rich

They can be adjusted, although you have to make sure the boot seal makes contact. Mine closes very well, either that or I have a good one!

the dealer who I bought my 99 Chim from suggested that to avoid finger prints, gently close the bootlid and then gently sit on it. Click!

Make sure, of course, that you aren't wearing things with metal in like some rivetted jeans.

Don't Slam it as it will eventually get damaged.
Lower to the point where the lid is resting then apply a firm
push on the rear edge of the boot in the centre - so your hand
is over the lock.

the catchplate can be adjusted inside the boot if required (we had to slack mine off a bit to fit everything in for le-mans last year )

Thanks all. Will try adjusting the catch, and if that doesn't work then its softly softly, pushy pushy!!

AFAIK the boot opens because of pressure on the catch caused be a slight mis-alignment. If you adjust too much this won't happen. It also explains why the lower-and-push method works well as the bar could bounce out again if you shut it too quickly.
