Not sure if it's a problem or not really, went out in the daylight to a local pub with the chim, end up chatting to long so drove back in the dark, put the light's on and the speedo stayed in darkness, light's on all the other instrument's tho'. not sure where to go with this, is there a bulb that you can get to under the dash to change, or is it a fuse, or worse still is it a specialist job ?

Hi, Was it in complete darkness or just dimmer than all the rest? For some reason the speedo only has the one bulb whereas the rev counter has two making it brighter. If it is in complete darkness then the chances are that the bulb has just blown. It requires the top of the dash to be removed to get to, but once the dash top is off its fairly easy to just change the bulb.
There are a lot of threads about on taking the dash top off if you are unsure of how to. Just do a search on dash removal.
cheers
Rich

I took my dash top off the other day to replace a bulb. It is a pain in the a*se to get to the drivers side bolt. I still have the cuts on my hand to prove it!.

Is this the case on all Chims. I noticed the same issue on mine and I thought the dash was going to have to come off. Maybe not now?

No, it's not the same on all - mine ('94, 4l) has two speedo bulbs and is the same brighness as the rev counter.

No I guessed not. Sounded too simple for a TVR!

Does your speedo have a digital mileage read out?

My friends one has, and I had not seen them on a Chim before, but his one has two bulbs and mine only has one!

I believe from the factory they come with one bulb in them as the rev counter should be your main point of interest not the speedo. All the speedos do have holes for two bulbs to be fitted if wanted so I'm guessing that the ones with two bulbs have been fitted by previous owners. But then again knowing TVR it could also depend on the day of build!! lol

No digital readout - mine are about the oldest style chim clocks I think. The second bulb may have been added by previous owner although it looks like the original wiring so I don't think so.

My '93 has two bulbs, although the wiring on one looks a bit non-original. I can't imagine just one bulb being fitted as it would not just be dimmer than the tacho, but the light would be brighter on one side than t'other and look very naff.

Well mine has one bulb at the top of the dial and the light is quite even all the way around the dial, just not as bright as the rest. I can still read it in the dark though so i`m not bothered!
