Car is going away to get mot done on saturday.
There's a few bits & bobs that need sorting...

I have a 5k budget for upgrades
Any recommendations that will better the car ?
I already have decent suspension.

Maybe an uprated brake kit?

Am thinking mainly along the lines of ACT manifolds/TVR power exhausts & better induction.

Also any had experiences with these (any real difference?):

Anyone been down this route lately?

Thanks

It's been a daily drive for the last 4.5 years.
I want to keep it that way.
I just think the standard set-up can be improved.

Haha, a turbo sounds good, but I think that would actually cost way over 5k., because of other stuff that I would have to upgrade.
However I already have booked my car in for TVR power supercharger kit.

Really? Is that going to be less than £5k? Which option are you going for?

No way!!!!
The 5k am on about does not cover a supercharger.
TVR Power will state the price soon.

Basically I do their site and had booked the car in last year.
I normally get good prices of them, so am not sure yet how much it's gonna cost me.

The have been working on the kit for a while now, and are pretty close to the finished product.
Can't say much more, except I will probarbly go for the SC400 as I have heard the outputs that a 4.0 litre
generated with this package lately and it was impressive.

Enough to sway me away from an LS conversion?

The multi throttle plenums are really for the bigger/ high output engines, on a standard 4.0L you would be wasting your money, the heads would be the limiting factor.

ACT...
Thanks for the heads up.

Is there any other stuff to purchase with your pleniums?
that would help the breathing of the car?

Thanks

The heads on my car are far from standard, so what would I require to run the Twin set-up ?

The trouble is to justify the fitment of the multi throttle plenum you would need to spend loads on the engine, as a ballpark i wouldn't recommend fitting the twin plenum to an engine less than 260 bhp. speak to the engine specialists/ builders for prices.
There are a few twin plenums fitted to 4.0L cars, but all have had engine modifications (ported heads, cam etc).

you could leave the engine and go for a few external tweeks: Induction pipes, trumpets, set up / remap then spend the rest on handling, a well set up / prepared 220ish bhp car can be very fast.

we're already doing it .. hope to have a car up and running before the Griff Growl so we have some dyno prints to show, and the turbo / manifolds / mapping/etc my personal target is a 300bhp 4litre kit for under 2000 pounds but i don't know if it will quite work out that cheap .. but that's the target for the basic kit. I know Mike is keen to push bhp upwards, and he's the No1 guy to have involved with that - he's no stranger to turboing large capacity RV8 motors

farking A, twice, possibly even three times. If you can get that kind of power hike for that kind of money, you are going to have a lot of customers.

This sounds very interesting.
Does problems not arise with engine cooling?

Had a conversation with Mike last year, which didn't take too long to get into blown RV8 options (low boost on standard engine / normal boost on custom built engine).

What halted my interest at the time though was the fact that that was it - ie such an installation is a BIG thing and the complete picture needs looking at, as the underbonnet furnace concerns me a tad for one thing, but ceramic coating and some bonnet vents - should be OK?

The most amusing thing about the conversation was when Mike casually said "normal" boost was about 1bar which in my layman pick-things-up-as-I-go-along understanding means a doubling of power.. ish !!

Whatever though, the current forced induction activities are the next logical step to get better value extra power for the money (ie TVR power doing the s/c instead of any "Taraka II" ) - its all good stuff.

When I sort my current starter gremlins and do that power run, look forward to chatting

I have some misgivings about very powerful rear wheel drive cars combined with a turbo. There's no doubt about the ability to produce the power, but my concern is that the varying turbo boost will interfere with the driver's delicate control over the power, and make it harder to keep the car balanced on the thottle. Has anyone here tried it - am I worrying over nothing?

I have no experience or expertise at all, but nonetheless it has always struck me, given that the main limitation of the RV8 seems to be the design of the head ("the breathing is restricted" ), that forced induction was the obvious solution rather than tinkering around with small improvements to the n/a setup. Turbocharging would seem to be mechanically far simpler than supercharging. It begs the question why it hasn't been done more often?
