Does anyone have a view as to who is the most "mod friendly" insurer? I'm currently with Tesco, who were quite good value, but have loaded my premium since upgrading the car's performance. It seems to me that I might get better value for money with one of the more specialist insurers and wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

Cheers

I found T.H.B. Eggar Lawson(01159 415255) silly cheap once i'd modded my Griff.Incredably,my premium went down considerably from what i was paying with the cheapest i'd found before. You have to have a limited mileage policy with them though, mine is 5k miles per year. When you call for a quote, ask for Steve.

Did you only declare non-standard valve caps though?

I was with Priviledge at £1200. I added Nitrons and a louder exhaust and Priviledge wanted an extra £200.

So I changed to A Manning. £600 even with the mods!

Thanks for the advice - seems the problem is a central london postcode and no garage. Are there any modded tvr/central london friendly insurers out there? (he asks knowingly!)

Try Adrian Flux. They're a modded vehicle specialist broker, so don't get freaked out by a long list of improvements and they really helped me out. My then insurer (Elephant) refused to cover me any more and cancelled my policy, and I could only find 3 insurers that would cover me at all (and that includes all the ones in Sprint). Flux were the only ones with a vaguely sensible premium, though still the wrong side of 2 grand.

I'm in Central London, but the real problems are:
1. Most insurers don't understand cars, and definitely not Tivs
2. If you're under 30 insurers think you must automatically be an idiot with a death wish who can't drive. Not that I'm bitter

The really stupid part of it is that if I went out and bought a standard Tuscan tomorrow, which is still quicker than mine post-mods, they'd be happy to cover me.
