94 Chim 400...reversed the car out of the garage on saturday, cleaned the car and carried out a few checks ready for a run out with the TVRCC north east boys to the raby castle car show.

upon re-starting the car to put it away i noticed that the mileage had reset to 0 miles? The mileage display is the digital type. Having gone to the car show yesterday, my mileage resets to zero everytime i re-start the car/switch the ignition. The mileage goes up as i drive but keeps re-setting to zero.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is there a trip function on this type of speedo unit (can't find reference to one anywhere in the bible or handbook) that i have accidentally activated?

Is there a battery in the speedo unit that stores the mileage that is no longer working?

Any help would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

Think there is a back up battery in the rear of the speedo which keeps the mileage when you turn the ignition off. I might be wrong, but thats what happend to a friend of mine.

Cheers - thinking of replacing my dash soon so it would be a good time to investigate - anyone know an instrument specialist that could fix the speedo?

Happened to mine a few years ago, it was just over £50 all in, but this was about 4 years ago, and it's been fine since, and if you send them some details regarding the current cars mileage (last MOT/Service details) they can reset the reading to look like you've never had a problem, and that means if you sell the car you don't sound all dodgy regarding the mileage reading.

The company I used was...........

No probs

Or you could try speedy cables www.speedycables.co.uk/

I think they used to make to original dials, might be wrong though!

Yeh - I was thinking that as the car has good history and only 34K - once fixed, thought i was going to have to call a clocker to put mileage on!

Thanks
