A strange one....under hard acceleration, especially in 1st & 2nd gears, I keep getting a burning smell. This is instantaneous and when I ease off it goes just as quickly.
Smells like an electrical smell (similar to when you are soldering something) so is definitely not just the tyres as I wheel spin down the road

Can't work out where this is coming from and can't make it do it whilst revving stationary. Car is running well otherwise.
Any ideas???

Sounds very much like a bit of clutch slip to me (going by your description of the smell)

Did wonder that too but can't feel any slip and is only under hard acceleration. Seems ok pulling away etc. Will definitely look into it further though. Thanks.

Hmm, would have thought that clutch slip would have shown up more in the higher gears when flooring it. Is all secure in the engine bay? Maybe some wiring/tubing coming into contact with the exhaust manifolds as the lower gears would possibly provide enough G to force something back on to them. A thought anyway!

I can only guess at an engine breather, but this would smell of oil obviously!

Or maybe something up with the alternator. Dunno

Could exhaust gasses be leaking through the manifold under warp drive? Do you get a hissing/spitting/ticking noise too?

Good way to check for clutch slip is to put the car into 3rd with the handbrake on and let the clutch out. The car should stall almost immediately, if it doesn't then the clutch is slipping.

I would suspect the engine moving on its mounts and moving the exhaust headers up against the heat shield. This will eventually destroy the fiberglass allowing engine bay fumes into the cabin.

With the Chimaera the rear wheel body eyebrows touch the outer sidewall of the tyre when subjected to hard acceleration, especially if the suspension has been lowered, going soft or wider tyres are fitted. When the body touches, it generates a burning smell which is always more aparent with the top off as the air is pulled around into the cockpit. This stops as soon as you back off, then all is well.
Sounds like your problem as anything to do with electrics is usually consistant through a range of speeds.
