Time to clean the engine bay...
Discussion
Chaps and chapesses,
Having clayed, prep-ed, polished, waxed and glossed the Chim over the weekend and last night, I thought (seeing as I was in a hygienic frame of mind
) I would clean the stepper too.
Anyway, with the bodywork all lovely and shiny
, the engine bay looked distinctly grubby
.
Now I know that it's an engine, is exposed to road grime and rain some of the time etc, but I'd really like to get it back up to a respectable state of affairs. I think it's time to call Mr Lamont and get some nice blue hoses, but I'd really like to clean all the metalwork (rocker covers, plenum, swirl and expansion tanks etc) too.
Does anyone have any favoured products/methods for getting the engine bay back to tip top shininess?
TIA

Surely something's going to get wet that doesn't like been wet? I'd like to give my engine bay a quick clean too. Cant be bothered to do a thorough job, much rather be driving than cleaning, however if a pressure washer can be safely used I'm sure i can manage that. Is there a correct way to do it? i.e. does anything need to be bagged up or avoided?

Not really - just be careful. I mean, dont have the lance-spout half-an-inch from an electrical conection and then hit it full-blast. Stand back a little and use gentle sweeping motions. When you put your car into a dealers for an engine steam-clean they will use a pressure washer (but with hot water).

Not sure I'm brave enough to get the pressure washer into the engine bay (that and the fact that there's a hosepipe ban
).
Yeah but you're allowed to use a pressure washer to clean your patio/drive. I reckon you could argue you were doing the difficult to reach bits underneath your car
).
