Put a deposit down on a 1993 4.3 today, British racing green, 40k miles and only 2 previous owners. It looks in excellent condition and felt excellent during the test drive. I had gone to look at a few 96/97 4/4.5 models but this one just stood out.

was suprised Tesco quoted only £400 for insurance if bought online, I am 43 with a clean licence and the car will be garaged so wasn't expecting too much, but that seems reasonable. Will check with some specialists next week to see what they offer - Any recomendations?

Roll on Friday morning when it should be ready to pick up.

Welcome to the joys of Chim ownership.
Tesco's were the cheapest for me but mine is on road parking 14,000 miles a year. Some of the specailist should be able to beat your quote if its low annual miles. Join the TVRCC and see if you can get a discount some compaines offer this.

Sounds about par for the course on a Chim - Im paid £480 a year for my 98 400 when I was 27, which went up to 540 when I got the Cerb..... now back under 500 for my Chim450... they're remarkably cheap to insure!

I was amazed how cheap they are to insure. I pay £379 fully comp (aged 30, car kept in central Edinburgh).

We got a quote from Hagerty, less than £400, on a 5.0 and I am 30, Jules is 29. Clean licenses.....

First time I got a Chimaera it was £1500...

Hi Barry ,

looks like you're about to join the TVR fold.

I began my TVR ownership experience in May and I'm still smiling.

In case no-one has already mentioned it, the Steve Heath "Bible" on the Griffith & Chimaera (2nd Edition is best) is well worth the cost and you could have it delivered from the TVRcc in a matter of days so you can start getting to know the TVR foibles before you get the car. It kept me busy while I was waiting.

I notice you're a Northamponite so if you're anywhere near Kettering why not pop along to the Trading Post (J8 on A14) on Thursdays and meet up with us PH'ers. Keep an eye on the Northamptonshire thread for details.

Thanks Tyre Tread, fully intend to come along on Thursday shame I won't have the car till Friday though. I already ordered the Bible through Amazon, 4 week wait for delivery though.

Worst thing about this is I pick the car up Friday morning then we are going up to the Isle of Skye for a week's holiday and we need to take the estate car as the dog is coming along. So i'll drive it briefly Friday morning then it will be stuck in the garage for a week while we are away. Bad timing or what!

Cheers and look forward to meeting you.

Tyre Thread just realised your meeting is different to the one I was thinking about which is the monthly TVRCC Northants branch meeting taking place this week apparently. Will try and get along to your meet in the near future.

The Kettering crowd are planning on crashing the Northants meet tomorrow so may see you there.

You can follow the plans for the convoy on www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=288037&f=168&h=0

Went with A-plan in the end because they offered the best deal on the 2 cars I have.
£400 for the Chim on 6k limited mileage and £299 for a toyota celica (Had to transfer the full no claims to the TVR so £299 is for zero % no claims, which beat my current insurer by £350), both policies have the wife added as additional driver.

Tyre Tread, can't make the Northants meeting tonight, but will definetly come along after my holidays.

Pick her up tomorrow, must stop clock watching!!!

Cheers all

Well done. I am on my second 1993 4.3 Chimaera, because I missed the first one so much. Beautiful car, with a great engine. Minimal depreciation and relatively inexpensive to run and maintain. I predict a lot of fun. Remember the car is getting on a bit now so dont get too upset if little things go wrong occasionally. I have owned 2 old Chimaeras and 2 old golfs and both VW's were far less reliable! Enjoy. Stu
