I noticed a pannel pop riveted to the inner wing behind the airflow meter on my Chim (1995 4.0l). Does anyone know what lies benieth? Does it go into the heater duct that I beleive passes throught the wing from front to back? I have a rain water leak that comes out of the passenger footwell heater vent and thought water may be getting in through the seal, although it looks fine. Not had chance to try the pouring water on it test yet. Thanks in advance. Terence

There isn't one on mine on that side (Dec 96 4.0 Chim), and i'm not sure what is hidden underneath that would need access from above. Does it look 'factory' (like the clutch access in the other inner wing), or DIY.

I'm not even sure that an access hatch there would give easier access to manifold bolts / rear spark plug either?

I'm sure somebody else will be able to give a better answer

If you remove this panel on an A/C equipped car you will find the heat exchanger(at least i think thats what its called).I'd be very surprised if your leak was coming from there, although possible ive never heard of that one before, and mine was loose for ages and didn't leak.If you've checked the usual places-clutch and brake resevoirs etc, have you checked the windscreen seal itself?

I must admit the windscreen rubber trim does look a little suspect on the pasenger side so I will try running some water over it at the wekend to see what I can find. The pannel looks factory fit, it is concave to match the shape of the inner wing, and follows the body contour behind and below the air flow sensor and is held on with pop rivets. My car does not have air con but of course being a TVR this does not mean that it would not have a pannel for access to air con parts. Thanks for the suggestions. Terence

I've seen this of plenty of cars, including my first chim and griff, that didn't have a/c.Come to think of it,the surveyors is the first i've heard of without it.

I think the carbon canister is mounted behind this panel. This is part of the fuel tank venting system
which stops a vacuum or pressure build up in the fuel tank.
As for the leak check the bolts that hold the wiper motor to the inner wing are covered with plenty of sealant.
Also check where any cables go through the bulkhead are all covered with sealant.
Check the wind screen seal is ok, thats where my leak problem was.
Hope that helps,
Cheers
Paul.

I'll have another check tonight, but i'm sure the only access panels on mine are on the drivers side (to access the clutch / brake cylinders), and within each wheelarch to access the rear of the headlights.

The Carbon canister on mine is in the nose on the drivers side, not the passenger side, but i'm sure mine hassen't one on the passenger side near the Airflow meter.

If the cover is pop-rivited, it's not something thats intended for service access (otherwise it would have self-tappers like the brake one!), but i will double check to see if i've missed one on mine!
