front rear tyres matching????
Discussion
Hi All,
i'm having real trouble finding a set of four matching make tyres for my chimaera...
fine finding the front two in the right size for one manufacturer, same story for the back pair but cannot find the same type for front and back.
245/40/16 rear and 225/50/15 front on griff alloys...
anyway, ok to get different sets front and rear.??
thanks...

Dunlop SP9000s I believe are the only set you'll find to match.
Why not run different F&R? I run Eagle F1s on the front (albeit the now hard to get and discontinued GSD2) and flken FK451s on the rear. I find them a fantastic combo and have had no issues with feel or grip since they were put on.

I have just been through exactly the same problem. I also have the 245 rear, 225 front and could not get the same brand of tyres front and rear other than the Toyo's. I looked at a number of different brands and read the numerous posts on here about it. Seem to be two schools of thought.
One - You must put the correct speed rating on the car, so this is more important than having a matched set of tyres. or
Two - The V spead rating (149) should be fine on the front with the Y (168) on the back for everyday use. This then means you can have the matched Toyo's all round, which are also considerably cheaper than the SP9000s. If you go down this route you MUST get confirmation from your insurance company that they are happy for you to run a lower spead rating than the manufacturer recomends. I spoke with mine (Admiral) and explained the problem. They said is was fine. I also spoke with a couple of dealers/specialists who said a lot of people or going for the Toyo's due to the size problem and that it should not be an issue.
In the end I went for the Toyo's which are being fitted tomorrow. £415 for a full set from e-tyres fitted at my house.
Not bad if you ask me.

I dunno about that. I just got the same tyres for £250 delivered from mytyres. Then paid £36 to get them fitted and ballanced locally.
Fair enough. My comment regarding £415 not being a bad price was for a set of four Toyo T1-R's fitted, being the 245/45/16 rear and 225/50/15 front. You can certainly put tyres on for less than this, but I didn't think it was a bad price for these tyres having checked the usual suspects, Valuetyres, MyTyres, Blackcircle etc.

Apologies. Mine were 205/55 and 225/50's.
Try www.mytyres.co.uk I've just had 4 for my tuscan really good prices. By the way are you sure about the tyre sizes, because your front tyres have a bigger tyre wall than the rears?
supply yokohama avs sports in matching patterns but the fronts will be v-rated but this is no problem, you will never reach the simulated loads a tyre is tested to for its rating approval on a road car.
We currently have these in stock and can fit these on site.

The tyre size works thus:the middle number is not a size rating it is the ratio of tread width to sidewall,
eg,205/50/15. sidewall is 50% of width of tyre.=100mm sidewall.
a 255/50/15 would have a taller sidewall than say a 185/65/15.
