OK .... in the mild or mild ish weather no problems. In the hot sun, which is the best time to go out in your Chim, the car just keeps cutting out, at the lights, in traffic jams or just whenever I stop and take her out of gear !!! The temp gauge always stays between 80 - 90 and never looks like it's over heating so why is this happening at idle when the engine is hot ? It hunts a few times then just stops !
Also I saw something really weird not sure if it’s related ? Bonnet was open, engine running hot, I was half in and half out the car when I saw a “Psstt” shoot out of the dissy cap or that general area (it was like a release of pressure or something and it just shot up in the air, twice).
Any ideas anyone ... please.
Cheers

Check two things first...
stepper motor...make sure it's clean, if not it gets clogged up and doesn't let the correct amount of air in at idle
coolant temperature sensor...if this is throwing out false readings the ECU wont know how much fuel to put into the engine and it will run rough...most noticable at idle.

Iain

check your crankcase breathers are clear, you may have a build up of crankcase pressure, pull out the dipstick when its running if you get a pssst sound your breathers are blocked, this will also cause cutting out fault.check anyways.good luck..
Thanks, i will try this and see what happens. How do you clear the crankcase breathers ?

Thanks but the stepper motor was cleaned a few weeks ago but will clean again. Coolant temp sensor replaced that a few weeks ago also.

I have let the car warm up to operating temp sitting just ove the 80 mark and remoaved the dipstick but there was no noise of any kind so the breathers must be OK ? Funny thing is the car did not cut out, it looks like it only happens after the car has been driven for a while. Grrrrrrr this is so frustrating !

Sorry, some sort of fuelling evaporation problem?

Interesting as i now a porker garage that is it doing on average 4 engine rebuilds a week under warranty.
It's about time people who buy modern German motors start owning to there problems with the vehicles. Thing is they don't like to coz thats why they went and bought them in the first place (marketing is wonderful thing ). Problem is they used to make good cars , but are some what resting there reputation of there previous efforts.
The average Ford is built better than most!!!

Ah yes, always remember that Top Gear thing where they raced the Tamoras I think it was against a Porker/Beemer... Which broke down a couple of times.. They NEVER mentioned it on the show, nor did they mention that the TVRs raced round all day long without missing a beat.. Funny that.... Only reason I heard of it is because a friend was at the Studio..

I think the story was Tamora vs. Boster. Porsche supplied two Boxters and both dumped their clutches. TVR drove a Tamora there; it was ragged all day, then driven home.
Result: Boxster pushed into studio and declared the better car. TVRs reliability questioned (again). Gotta love those motoring journalists...
Can't help with your Chim(p) though, sorry.

I thought it was Fifth Gear?

You may need to replace the spark amplifier. The heat in the engine bay does eventually cook them.

Sounds like ignition? Mine did that a couple of times. Changing leads and coil worked wonders.
