Hi all,
Today I was doing lots of short little trips in my car, and sitting in lots of jams. After a good 3hrs of this, i put my clutch in for some lights and my rev counter jumped up to 2000rpm then down to 200 rpm, back up and then down. It did this every time i put my clutch in untill i got home.

So i left the car for a few hrs and then went for a drive, and it was fine?
I've put this down to the fact it was 35c today and the car never had a good run, just town driving and jams. Coz tonight it was okay.

Any ideas?

Lee

Idling & Chimaeras is a mystery to me. All of mine have been erratic at differing times & circumstances.

Quite possible. Although I've driven mine in Rome & Mallorca in 40 degrees with no problems (as far as I can remember, although as I've already said I just ignore the idling issues)

I drove back from Blackpool today (nearly 300 miles so it DID have a good run) and then got stuck in big traffic jam on M25 and Chim was idling very low and a couple of times i thought it would stall but was o.k then when i got driving properly it didn't have any problems when stopping later on so just take it as the heat and bad jams, i am.

glyn,
I think you are right, it was very hot today, its just not great seeing your rpm going up then dropping so low.

It was great untill i got to the M25 not just because of the jam
i did have one panic though........we were at the junction of the M42/M40 when i could hear a buzzing noise so after several checks of all my warning lights and temp/oil gauges etc i pulled onto the hard shoulder, checked them all again, thought to myself this isn't good so i turned the ignition off (buzzing still going on) so sitting in the car now confused as to what the problem is i try to chase where the noise is coming from only to find it's from.........................

the Bl88dy sat-nav........it packed up and for some strange reason wouldn't stop buzzing so had to take the batteries out to stop it.........turned to mrs hood and smiled, apologised to the Chim for doubting her after the way she had behaved so perfectly this weekend and continued journey home.

Would moving your number plate below your front Grille allow any more air to pass into the engine bay? Just an idea........like we discussed. Has anyone else done this and notice any change?
You could just buy a different car?
Hope she's behaving today?
Maybe worth keeping her garaged tomorrow as the weather man says its going to get even hotter.
So let me get this right: Don't drive your convertible in the snow. Be careful of putting too much power down in the rain. Don't drive it when it's too hot. It is nice to look at though. Have your new plates arrived yet?

Get a 'special' smaller number plate made up, Less retrictions to air flow and may be just a little difficult to be read by 'cameras'.

Andy,

I have just got myself a set from Fancyplates.com
Did it help keep the temp down?

Lee,

Sorry but can't really say for sure because i changed the number plate in the spring when the weather was considerably cooler than it is today.

my reg number is shortish so I cut off either end of the plate to make it look neater and the temp dropped significantly as a result...

OK, I give up..what arrangement of letters and numbers did you use to read "SHORTISH"
