Had an excellent run out this weekend down to Devon and into Exmoor. Went down Fri afternoon through all the heat and the traffic, enjoyed blasting up Porlock hill (1 in 4 incline) and burbling around all the country lanes and then blasted home down the b roads on Sunday in the 35 degree heat.

And the car performed faultlessly, didn’t miss a beat once, engine temp never went above 95 despite sitting in some very hot queues……god I love this car!!!

Only one problem though what the heck is this cos it appears to have fallen off from somewhere and been melted by the exhaust. I think it was previously attached to the exhaust although tbh I am not actually sure. We did smell something burning at one point on the way down but I figured it was the glue holding on the heat shielding. Nevertheless, whatever this is, it did not affect the running of the car one bit all weekend, but I figure I should sort it before it does.

So does anyone know what it is and where it should go?

Oh and just because I really like it here’s a nice chase pic following my mates Works Mini.

I *think* from memory it is the connector for the air conditioning pump. It was on my Chim loom before I stripped out all unnecessary wiring, its also in my Disco loom that doesnt have air con either.

Obviously if you have air con it blows my theory out of the window.

mine is not connected to anything, just cable tied up out the way behind the alternator! I have always wondered what it is for though, I guess maybe air con?!

It looks similar to the lambda sensor connectors, but only two wires instead of three. I take it the lambdas are still connected?

Forgive me for stating the obvious but you need to put some insulation tape around each of the bare wires then over the whole thing then use a cable tie to keep it away from the manifold.

If the wires are left exposed and ever go live you have all the ingredients for a very nice fire!

Concur with others - it is for the air con.
