i have noticed that sometimes on a morning my car is open, yet i locked it the night before( tested this last night and it was definately the case, it was locked, but this morning the doors opened by depressing the handle)
any body had this, seen it before, any suggestions what it might be?

the shiny struts on the windows, what are they made of, as the need a polish?

new indicator stalks, but the instructions refer to cutting off the old ones, i'm worried if i screw up, where can i buy replacements for the plastic ones if i need to?

mines an older type with the chrome buttons to open the doors, can you get replacements for these as they are looking a bit tatty, or are they not chrome, in which case they could be polished?

as you can tell from the standard of the questions i'm not that au fait with cars, but any help will be much appreciated

Ok, you locked it but did you then check that it had actually locked by trying to open the door ? I had a problem where it would appear to lock , alarm sets no problem but press the button and door opens accompanied by alarm wailing. Turned out to be a sticking door switch - just needed cleaning out.

Changing the indicator stalks is very easy (assuming that you are going for the Leven ones). Don't worry you won't screw. It sounds a little drastic to cut the old ones off but in practice it is quite easy and all the Leven stuff comes with good instructions and tools to do the job.

The button on the fob gets pressed in my pocket and sometimes unlocks the car unexpectedly, usually when I'm crouching down near the car admiring it!!....Could it be the same with yours?

Do you find that your car is cleaned and polished in the morning too ? If so its the pixies. Be happy.

Do you find the car wont start or behaves oddly - those are the gremlins

Be glad its the former visiting you not the latter

And now on a serious note....

When you open the doors in the morning does the alarm go off ? This should indicate where the problem lies. If the alarm goes off then its still armed but theres something going on with the locking mechanism for the doors. If the alarm doesnt go off then its disarmed itself and unlocked the doors. In that case you probably have an alarm problem.

The window struts are aluminium. Polish them with AutoGlym aluminium polish or similar and they'll come up a treat. Don't get any of the dark grey polish residue on the door trim though (especially if its light coloured).

Just as a side thought, could the locking issue be linked to the interior light buttons in the sills. These often effect the locking when they get corrosion on the contact faces, this may be giving an intermitant connection. Check that the little pads havent slipped on the doors, and take out the buttons and give them a clean. May not help, but it'll cost you nothing to rule it out?

Good luck
