Hottest Day of the Year!!!

Chim 400. Right, call me a fool, but whilst checking to see that there was sufficient coolant in my expansion chamber this morning, my attention was diverted, and I shut the bonnet and drove off, leaving the blue cap on the garage work bench.
I drove the 25 miles to work, and the temp gauge acted as per normal, not exceeding an indicated 95deg even in heavy traffic.
As I parked the car I had a memory flash and realised what I had done.
What do people think with regards driving the car back?
Will coolant only be lost if the temp >100deg?
What are the implications if the cap is not in place.

Don't make too much fun please!!

Is there a VW dealer near where you work? If so get a cap for a Mark 2 Golf - it's the same. It will save you having to worry for the sake of a few pounds.

Thanks.

Just checked expansion tank after cooling down period, and the coolant hasn't changed level from this morning.

I believe that pressurising the coolant will raise it's boiling point further but if it's only been at 95 then no need to worry I don't think. The water pump will still have been circulating coolant.
