In rel world figures, what is the difference between a 4.5 and 5.0? I have owned a 5.0 Griff in the past, currently have a Cerb but would like to buy a Chim, I really want a late model SE type but can only find 4.5s, did they make any 5.0 ltrs? I know the real BHP figures are considerable lower than the factory claims so will I notice the difference?

IIRC the late model SE's were all 4.5s... but this is TVR, so there could always be an exception to the rule.
Biggest difference is in the low down torque of the cars. Misses has a 5.0 Griff and I've got a 4.5 Chim. Prior to hers being modded, both were pushing similar power, but hers had more torque... then again, the HC cam in hers makes it a sod to drive in traffic, whereas the 4.5 is as smooth at the proverbial infants arse...
I hope they made 5.0's as I Have one in the garage with a 500 badge on it.......
I think it was just a very low number of 5l chimaeras were made... Seek, and ye shall find one..
IN terms of performance, in reality I don't think you'll notice a huge difference between the two of them. They are chuffin fast, whichever way the wind is blowing.

Is you car an SE then?

Doesn't look like an SE to me... doesn't have the faired in front lights...
think they made between 400 - 500 '500s', in the chimaera.... which actually makes it rarer than the Griffith 500!!!
I have a late ( ish)500 and doesnt say Se anywhere....always thought that was just the last special edition griffiths that were SEs.
500 definitely more torque, and a good 15% more BHP on average as well i would say...
but in the real world driving... not much real difference between any given 500 and any 450...IMHO

Yes, not badged or numbered like the Griff SE but has much the same upgrades,
this is an "SE"

I know there are Chim 500, my question was if any of the SEs were 500s, would seem they were 450s though.

To be honest Ive only ever seen 4.5s in the 2001 spec cars but that doesn;t mean there were none made.
It just so happens that my 2001 spec car is for sale as well

I drove a variety of 400s, 450s, and 500s, before I bought mine - a 500.
In terms of actual performance and day-to-day experience, I would say there is very little to separate the cars indeed. But - for me - the 500 just felt more muscular. The extra torque really does make a difference.
But you would definitely not be disappointed with a 450.

Judging by the car in nsparey's post the changes seem to be:
Spider wheels & 5 stud hubs (and I assume brake upgrade),
Cowled Headlights
Clear front indicators & side repeaters
Revised Boot latch (as per 99 onwards)
and that is about all I can spot.
Somewhat dissapointed not to see the updated seats and the VW mirrors fitted

I know that the late Griffs were badged "Special Edition" as they made exactly 100. Believe that the late Chimaeras are purely an evolution of the model and did not have any special name.
As for differences my understanding is that it was limited to only seats, and light covers. Think that everything else was the same as earlier models.
The spiders on the link shown above would have been probably been upgraded after it had left the factory.

Yep I'd agree with that, oh and the late Griff SE's were all 500's IIRC. The Chims were just the "2001" Model.
