Rubber Bits & Things
Discussion
Hi - help please
Anyone know where I can get new rubber door seals and ends from?? Ive had some on order for weeks from the TVR centre but im fed up of waiting! (Terry in the stores is a great guy though and I reckon he is more fed up with me pestering him!)
Im about to change the indicator stalks and steering wheel adjuster to the nice new shiny Leven ones but ive got no instructions .... is there anything I need to know so I dont ruin them?
And finally, is there a big secret to getting the roof in and out of the boot successfully... or do you have to be a bloke to be able to do it! (it puts me off going topless!)
Thanks
Susan
ps - im glad to see im not the only one who has problems of intermittent cutting out at junctions!

Hi Susan,
somewhere in the Chimaera forum there is an excellent thread on taking the roof off and how to stow it in the boot. I've had a quick search and I can't locate it but it really is worth finding as it has good explanations of all of the techniques and pitfalls with pictures and even IIRC a video. Well worth seraching for.
It's all down to patience & technique.

Hi Susan,
If you remove the spare wheel and carry a can of tyre foam instead it makes getting the roof in and out a whole lot easier. Then you have the top of the roof facing you with the little centre cut out at the top, you then drop the left hand side in first and put it as far over to the left as you can start to drop in the right hand side then pull the left hand side towards you slightly and in it goes. It will go in with the spare wheel still in but why make it harder for yourself when a can of tyre foam will do the job. Hope this helps.

put the spare wheel in the centre, that way you can get the roof in & out easy moving from right to left when loading into boot,i have no problems with this method.dont use the spray in puncture repair fluid, tyre shops will decline to repair your puncture something to do with the patches not sticking.

That's one point of view - but not one I share. I'd rather have the boot space and use TyreWeld to get me home or quickly to a safe place (if the cover isn't already shredded) - ever actually tried changing a flat tyre on a chim? I couldn't even get the scissor under the chassis when it happended to me on the M3, pi$$ing with rain, dark, cold, wife had just left me, you know the rest!!).
Frankly I'm not sure I want to drive a high-powered sports car around on a patched tyre anyway. If I have a puncture I want a new cover not a bandaid. Trivial cost when you consider how much you rely on the piece of black rubber compound.
So for me TyreWeld is the right solution, and it may be for STERRY too.
1. Where do you put the punctured tyre/wheel?
2. Tyre weld is standard on Cerberas and all other later models. Aston Martin also use it.
It is worth carrying a pump though as Tyre weld often needs a bit of extra pressure.
If the tyre is shredded then the suspension is more than likely damaged.

HUT 49 if patches were no good they wouldent use em on superbike tyres, and they do and its perfectly safe, could you imagine the tyre shops public liabality insurance if it wasent, besides im not changing a tyre every time i get a puncture that would be madness, what if the tyre as split that goop stuff won,t do shit.the tyre manafacturers wouldent allow repairs if it wasent safe, think about it.
Ive started quite a debate, I only wanted to know if there was a BIG secret to fitting the roof easily in the boot! Reckon I will continue to struggle! Anyway ive got a new problem to worry about now! due to this glorious hot weather, the veneer on my dash has split. Any suggestions on how to stick it back?? .....and not with tyreweld thank you!
thanks
Susan
PS - TVRCHIM, the operation was a success and I now have glitzy chrome indicator stalks, thanks!

Sterry, sorry bout that, us lot just giving our dime,s worth....it wont last forever, but i removed my dash surround had 2 small cracks lifting, placed small amount of superglue then put heavy weight on face for an hour...well its lasted 6 months and still going strong, cheap fix.and you can,t see the cracks not from the seating position anyway, just take your time it does work.
