Called in local Auto-parts store today.Noticed a small oil container which was labelled hydraulic lifter/tappets release agent.Just add oil to engine oil to help ease sticking lifters etc.
Has any body tried this in theirs to ease the ticking?

I've used a similar product on my wifes MX5 with great success,it wont repair worn tappets of course, but at a fiver or so a go its worth a try if yours are gummed up.The ticking your hearing may well be a manifold gasket just starting to blow though,i would say this is more likely.

yep wynns do a similar product used this a number of times to get customers cars working properly, stopped tappets jacking up on mondeo/zetec tigra/ecotek rover/ k series, and noisy tappets on a late astra who,s owner had gone way over hes service interval.i dont normally like oil additives,as it can mess with the oils make/up.but i have to say it works.of course if the cam & followers are worn it won,t help.

I think the one i used was Wynnes also?Would it really affect the oil that much though do you think,as i would suspect its just more of the detergent that they put in oil anyway? What do you think Simon?

mongoose i would go with that at the end of the day it works, besides you can allways do the next oil&filter change a bit sooner, once its done its job you wont have to keep using it,if your using the right oil & quality and changing regular.

I have found that using posh sythetic oils made my V8s rattle on start up. Moving to good old Castol GTX cured both, never been back to posh stuff since. Of course you may not be on posh stuff !
