Hi everyone. I have a chimaera five liter 1997 with twenty 23000miles on the clock.Had no problems with the engine in three years until now.I'm so sad i am missing all the sun.I thuoght i got a misfire on the engine,so i change the plugs + leads + coil.No change. So booked in for a rolling road test, but on the way there the problem got a lot bigger,i use half a tank of fule to get nine miles. On the rollers the guy told me that the injectors had stook fully open,so he checked the fuel pressure, perfect, checked the temp switch, perfect.sent the ECU away, yes you gussed it,perfect. So he as ask me to ask if anybody has had this problem before to try and save some time going through the wiring loom.Any help would be very grateful.would like to see some sun before it gose back to bed for another year.cheers symon.

Surely, if the injectors were stuck open the fuel pressure would be low? Have you got sooty plugs, black smoke from the exhaust and rising sump levels? You could lift the rail and see if any injectors are leaking when the pump is running.

He tested the fule pump and said the pressure was fine from the fule pump.the plugs are sooty and there was a clear smoking from the exhaust with the unburnt fule. The oil has slightly gone up and is getting change after its just been done three weeks ago.

Right is it a mechanical or electronic problem???
If it's mechanical then a rebuild or replace will sort it, if it's electrical then you could be in for some fun!!!

This will be a bit of a ramble, but hopefully a bit of back ground will help so sort it. The injectors have a permenet power supply and work off a switched earth in the ECU, bank firing the injectors 4 at a time side by side, it seems a slightly odd idea to start with, but work fine in reality in 95% of applications.

Right, take all the plugs out, then take all 8 electrical connectors off the injectors, crank the engine over. If fuel starts pouring out of the plug holes then its a mechanical problem, probably some crap has got by the fuel filter and holding the solenoid heads open.

My hunch is that you have an electrical problem and the earth wire to the ECU from the injectors has chaffed and is shouring out on something. Disconnect all 8 injector connectors and the connector on the ECU. Test for continuity from pin 11 to earth and pin 13 to earth. If either of these do connect to earth you've found your problem, trace the wire along until you find when it's chaffed!

If you want to be really thourgh the full hotwire system test is here www.rangie.com/articles_topic.php?id=167&cat=7&subCat=51

Oh and when you do sort things drop a little oil down each bore and crank over a few times before replacing the plugs. With that much fuel in there there's a good chance you've washed the bores.

Spoken to Joo (trackcar)? He's based there and knows his eggs, might be worth a look if the above doesn't sort things.
