Twiddly thing on steering column
Discussion
Any idea what this is for. 94 Chim. Located on LHS of steering column.
Rotates 360 degrees but does nothing. I thought it may be to dim the dash lights but to no avail.

yep, it's for the intermitant wipers. twist it forwards and the wipe is about 6 seconds. Twist it back and the wipe is about every 12 seconds. Took me a while to suss it out to!!
On a similar subject, my wiper stalk has 3 positions, normal, pull forwards (for the washers) and push back (where it clicks in to place) is this just because its a unit from a car that had a rear wiper or is it actually connected to anything on a Chim??

I think its for the rear wash/wipe on the hatchback Cavalier. You could put that vacant switch to some use though - turbo boost anyone? Oil slick and smoke clouds a la Knight Rider! Passenger side ejection seat?
try some rain-x.
bit of a faff, but it gave a massive improvement in movement and action of wipers, bonus is that >50-60mph the wipers are only required on intermittant no mattter how hard it rains and then only if there is a lot of spray.
i know you may think i'm overstating the case, ( i found it hard to believe before i'd tried it ), but i thought my wipers were held together with bits of string and elastic before i started using this stuff.
i've no connection to the firm BTW.
halfords have it and also have their own-brand stuff, which a chap at work reports is also good.
best poorly fish ( 6 quid ) i ever spent.

I assume you didn't get a manual with your car, because all males read the manual before admiting to not knowing something Page 8 item 18 Intermittent wiper speed control Located on the left hand side... need I say more? Rich...

I think I read on a previous post that there are no connectors fitted to the switch for this position - so can't use it anyway!
