Replace spring as well as damper?
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm about to replace all the dampers on my 500, with GAZ dampers, and I wasn't going to change the springs since I've no reason to doubt them.
However, they're the kind of price where I'm wondering whether it might be worth it anyway.
Does it make sense to match their spring with their damper? Can you even tell if a spring is tired until you get the thing off? Or should I not bother if I haven't noticed a problem?
Any opinions? Ta.

Are they any good?
You may find you need to change the springs anyway, to get the right ride height. Also, you would need to check the the spring diameter was the same. Different dampers take different size springs and have the spring seat in different places. When I tried the prototype GAZ shocks on the V8S with the original springs, the lowest ride height I could get was slightly higher than I wanted. Also, loading the springs on the dampers is a pain, if you buy the springs too they will come ready fitted which saves you a job.

I hope you have the bump damping relatively soft then .. going stiffer on the rear without doing the front is a recipe for massive oversteer moments .. oh hang on what am I saying .. massive oversteer? .. nice one!

I'm running the GAZ shocks on the 520 with very very uprated springs and found the ride to be firm but not harsh. Very similar in characteristics to Pete's Nitron setup. Very subjective I know but the the change over did result is about 5 mph faster cornering speeds when sprinting which is a big improvement over the previous AVO setup I had.
As for a standard spring for the Griff? Which particular one of the 10 or so standards would sir like?

They are better than the standard ones i had because they had started to wear and sag heavily so i couldn't really say. As joospeed said you've got to play about with the ride settings to get a good feel, to hard and they are too bouncy with no grip, but you start to get the feel of what ride and height setting is right for you and your car after a few adjustments, ideal for trackdays just turn them up a few clicks for the race and a few clicks back when the day is over, also they come with a 3 year guarantee.
