I'm currently trying to fix a replacement headlight surround on the Chimaera.
It seems it attaches with 2 bolts and some sealant.

I was expecting an access panel in the wheel arch (as with the Griff) but it doesn't seem to have one. Could someone point me in the right direction as how to get access to fit it?

thanks,
Darren.

If your's is a pre-facelift one, i think you'll need to take out the front grill to reach up for the access bolts. Mines a very early facelift car (also 1996) and has the access panels in the wheelarch.

Best of luck

Thanks for the quick reply Paul.

It's Dec '95 so probably one of the last pre-facelift cars.

So, the next logical question is how do I remove the grill (sorry, new to Chimaeras!)

Not sure how the grill comes out, sorry. Is there anything in the handbook as you'll need to take the grille out to change the indicator or headlight bulb. If not (or if nobody else on here knows the trick!) try getting a copy of Steve Heath's (posts on here as shpub !) excellant book 'Griffith and Chimaera' book, commonly know as the 'bible'. Don't pay over the odds for one off Ebay either as they are available new from www.tvrbooks.co.uk/

I used to have a copy when I had my Griff, but it went with it.
I should get around to buying one really, but I'd have thought PH would come up with answer quicker!!

the grill mesh is trapped in the rubber surround you need to get a small screwdriver to flip the mesh from under the rubber groove then slowly pull the grill out of the lip working from one edge to the next, making sure the number plate is removed and any screws, refiiting is a reverse of above, only a bit fiddly.the surround rubber may fall of the body work edge thats the bit you,ll love refitting as you try to winkle the grill back in the groove.good luck it gets easier the more you do it no problem really.

Thanks for that. I went to have a look earlier and did exactly as you suggest. I'm still not convinced it's in all the way around though - what a faff! Ah well, looks much better now with the surround. Thanks all!

Yes, the grille is a faff. Thank your lucky stars you are doing it in warm weather though, the rubber trim would be stiff in the winter and you'd probably end up with a few grazes on yourself and/or the car. Been there!
