HI
I have just fitted a new alternator to my early 94L chimaera
I have noticed a heat shield around the alternators of some TVR's.
Has anyone ever fit one to an earlt chimp, and where can I get one from.
Thanks
Mark

I eventually wrapped the manifolds and cat down pipe in heat insulation tape.
Alternator has survived so far and engine now runs at half temp when stuck in traffic.
its had the effect of quiteing the cabin when driving but no loss of that fantastic engine note.
cost about £40 from larkspeed Leeds

I need a new alternator (ignition light on dim when engine is running), where do I get one from. My Chim is a 1993 4.0.

Thanks

Or it could be that your 100 amp alternator fuse needs replacing, as I discovered only yesterday! Having been dumped on the A316 in Richmond, the RAC came out and diagnosed a dud alternator. Cue low loader home. However, on calling Paul @ Austec, he suggested that the 100 amp fuse between the alternator and the battery might well have broken, as the compartment it is contained in is bolted to the engine, and thus subject to a lot of vibration. One jack and axle stand later, and I found that the fuse had indeed snapped (rather than burnt out) and a jump start (and battery charge) later, all is well again!

Worth investigating first, as the fuse costs about 10 pence!

Car is an early one and can't find a fuse, have been told that the early ones didn't have a fuse?

that sounds bad that the breakdown service did not diagnose that there was no voltage coming from the alternator, you should have about 14 volts coming out.
