Chimera 4.5 T reg

While under neath I sore a little oil leaking out of sump gasket, oil drips on the bolt heads, spoke to tvr agent they say this is very common the the V8 (they all do that), my question is this common and should the gasket be changed.

Oil sender (assume thats what it is next to oil filter underneath with single wire) pulled off wire and full of oil, looks like it seaping out around the tab where the cable attaches, are these a std rover part.

I find as I drive along it blows oil onto the chasis. A good thing then.

Yes, the sump gasket does tend to leak. Some vehicle manufacturers use a gasket, others don't; they just apply a silicone bead. Mine has no gasket, it just has the silicone (which I was dubious about) but it has not leaked for the last 3,000 miles.

The oil sender is a standard Rover part.

in reality if your engine is leaking oil it shouldnt! the fact it is a rover doesnt make it acceptible to leak, sorry about the spelling!

Mine leaks from the sump gasket.

It helps keep the underside of the car lubricated and as I top up the levels with nice brand new oil as the nasty dirty stuff has dripped out I feel that it must be doing the engine some good.

In an ideal world all Rover V8s would leak and the world would be a better place.

If by chance your doesn't leak, try drilling a tiny hole in the sump.

you know it makes sense.
