Aaarggh! I finally bit the bullet and decided to replace the battery inb my 500, and the blooming bolts aren't coming out. I have the Griff-style battery box, with the nuts captive in the box itself, where I can't get at them to hold them from spinning.

So, I'm turning the bolt under the car, and it's just spinning.

Has anyone had this problem, and found a way out? Otherwise I'll have to grind the bold heads off, and I don't fancy that at all.

The battery wont lift out when box is inposition, so your worst fears will need to come true im afraid. Happy grinding. Good luck.

Jonathan,

I had the same problem when I came to replace the battery in my old Chimaera. I ended up using an angle grinder. Be careful though as the bolt gets very hot, and the floor is only fibreglass.

Hi,
I had the same problem last week removing the battery box from my Chim. I managed to use a lever under the corner of the box that was spinning and gently broke the fibreglass seating for the captive nut. (It was half broken anyway thats why it was spinnig). I then took the box to my local Fibreglass bodyshop who repaired it using the same captive nut and charged £20. I could have repaired it myself with araldite or something but i was too lazy.

Yeah I tried that but I was too scared of cracking the bodywork that you have to lever against.
