bob,
first of all , sorry for putting your name in the title, but i couldnt find a contact on your website.
i've just looked at your details for the start button mod and you refer to moulding an aluminium outer ring.
where did you get these from. i want to upgrade the switches in my 96 chim ( the old black style ones), i've seen the leven stuff but they are just pop overs which dont give you the same finish. i wanted to match them to the bezels around the dials.
any help would be much appreciated as i can source replacement switches but cant find any bezels
cheers

Michael,
The basic problem is that the switch is a good match but its diameter is smaller than the other switches. The ring was simply formed from some scrap 1/16" aluminium sheet I happened to have in my workshop then inserted under the switch in place of the supplied washer. The Leven dash buttons are not the same as mine but there's no reason why you can't fabricate a shaped ally washer to match those. Aluminium is fairly easy to work, Cut the rough shape, tap it into an appropriate profile with a small hammer, cut off the rough edges, then give it a brushed ally look with some fine abrasive paper.

spyschim,
thats a nice switch is it a direct replacement for the early chim light switches?
tvrbob -
very nice switch - the blower control where did you get that from as mine is the old plastic vauxhall one
i'm trying to get all the bits to give my dash an overhaul, does anybody know the precise spec of the light switches and hazard for the early chims.
when i get all the stuff i'm going to do it in one fell swoop, take piccies and write down all the specs
cheers

tvrbob - where'd you get the 'start' switch from and is fitting it a tricky mod?
The modification is detailed under the 'Upgrades' link on ChimaeraPages along with several other nice modsGassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
