Afternoon all

Must be catching this TVR thing, just happily thrown bundles of notes in exchange for the keys to a lovely red chim 400. Yum!

Engine note makes me grin like a loon, just had the big 72k service pre-me buying it and came back with a clean report and, big bonus, everything appears to work!!

Only question I had really was "do they all bounce around like that on anything but smooth tarmac?" Had the joy of blatting down a country lane near my girlfriends house Saturday evening and almost launched over the hedge rows when I hit one of those inherently English inventions - the manhole/pothole. Spooky!

Still smiled like a loon though

cheers

Suspension need not be expensive, no need to frighten the chap!
Also for all we know it could be that there is 15psi in one of his back tyres and the suspension is fine

Hmmm, adjustables. Now there's an idea! No, no, no, don't get me started so early on that track!

Tyres are fat and healthy and yep, did the suspension check and everything bounced nicely and no undue wobbles or clunks from anywhere suspicious. I did about 250 miles at the weekend and on usual roads it's fine. Just seems to get a bit darty and wayward on anything uneven or when there's a slightly sunken manhole cover like there is in the road right outside my drive!!

Ho hum. Anyone happen to know a good and worthy suspension place in London/South East that I can trust not to rip me a new one?

Suspension is a popular topic on here, and several retailers and suspension specialists are on here too.. just use the search facility in the menu above and you'll have more info than you can shake a stick at

Welcome to the fold, where the grinning never ends...

As for bouncing around, no, not really.. It is the tourer of TVRs, should take bumpy roads quite comfortably...

Depending on where you are the following have good reps -

Tower view Racing - North Circ - near the Ace Cafe
Austec - in Gatwick, far but worth it - Tell them Justin Sent you.
Top cats - Bedfordshire

Or you could try doing it yourself - If just had Gaz Golds Fitted and bang for buck they seem very good...

Thanks Matt, I'll have a dig around tonight at home.

Have to ask "jasandjules", how do you run a 5litre Chim as a student?

Thinking it's time to have the front wheels off and have a poke. Doesn't seem to be being caused from the back. Wondering if I have a bush problem (oooerrrr).

Thanks for all the feedback thus far all.

..doubt it as you would have spotted it when you checked all the wishbone bushes and and a good poke around under the front pre-purchase

Didn't have the wheels off though, just had a good squint with a torch and a feel around with my fingers. Grabbing at straws here, time to visit one of the fine recommendations from tunnelmeister.

cheers

Just as a matter of interest what's the reg (with a couple of **s for security's sake) and where did you get it?

Ah, well I used to work for a living, so had a few savings.. In fact, I am now in the job market again, so currently just a layabout, can't even claim student status..And my other half also works... Which helps...

Hi Simon

Reg is "P *** LKO". Not the sweetest Chim ever, but then didn't have £12-15k to throw around. Plus I'm the kind of muppet that's spent the last 10-15 years either restoring old Jags, MGs and Triumphs myself or helped mates with their time-consuming, marriage threatening rust heaps

What car did you have previously? It may be that you are just used to a very sift ride, and the TVR has come as a bit of a shock. I felt the same, and then some again when I moved from the Chim to the Cerb.

Hi

Possible, but I'm going to get the suspension checked anyway just in case. Was expecting it to be pretty rigid but not quite as fidgety as it is. Normal hack is an old Mondeo with "a bit of suspension and engine work", my old restored MGB made way for the Chim and that had lever arch dampers that were evil on bumps!

Take it you're enjoying the Cerbera?
