Chimaera = Swarfega?
Discussion
Hi,
I've been browsing these forums for a few months and I'm now seriously considering treating myself.
I think I've read enough to get a good idea of the cost of ownership and I'll probably use Rob Ingleby at www.findasportscar.co.uk to make sure I don't buy a turkey and because I don't really have time to travel around looking. It will be a garaged and only used as weekend car.
One thing that I've not really been able to get a feel for is how much tinkering is involved.
If I keep it regularly serviced and baring serious problems can I just enyoy driving?
I've probably not worded this very well but I know some people really enjoy spending every Sunday morning under the bonnet but I don't.
Any thoughts?

If you buy a good one, and get it regularly serviced by a competent, experienced outfit, you should be OK - BUT TVRs are not Hondas. Connectors can work loose, things can get hot and intermittently fail, bits work loose and fall off. Because of all that it helps if you cast your eye over the important bits from time to time and spot any problems before they become a break down. For instance if you notice a wire rubbing on something, tape it out of the way. If you get a misfire, lift the bonnet and check the plug leads are on tight. If you're happy with that level of diligence - and willing to develop requisite awareness - you should be alright. There's no need to do a strip-down and rebuild every Sunday, but conversely, you'll probably want to lift the bonnet from time to time to avoid disappointment.
