I posted this yesterday on the general TVR site knowing that many Griffs have the same diff as Chimaeras. I was, however, underwhelmed with ambivalence.
Is anyone elses early Chimaera's diff noisy ?

My GKN diff has started making a whirring noise, reasonably quiet, slightly more noticeable going round right bends & roundabouts. I took the car to my trusted TVR mechanic who checked underneath, took it for a spin, then told me that GKN diffs are built like tanks and at this mileage (54k) its nothing to worry about - a lot of diffs make noise. Now, the last diff I had that whirred ( not a TVR I hasten to add ) locked up at 70mph on the motorway, this is not an experience I particularly want to repeat.
So is this an OK thing in anyones opinion.

I think a very faint whirring is almost a normal thing on a chimaera diff!!!, when was the car last serviced?? or the diff oil changed??
cheers

With RCA on this, think the interval is every 12,000 miles. Can check if you want

Crickey Richard, thats got to be a record time for a reply.
I bought the car last year and its only been whirring for the last two weeks, upto that point it was silent. It had its 54K service about 4 weeks ago. I'd have to check when the diff oil was changed, it wasn't this last service though - not sure if it should have been.
While were on the subject, I understand that there is a TVR recommended list of 'things to be done' at each service, can owners get there hands on such info ?

go here then click on the 'service'-'service schedule'

It's not exhaustive, but it's got the major stuff

There is also a servicing chapter in the bible as well explaining why it should take the best part of a day to service the car! The list of things to be done only tells part of the story.
