I would like to know EXACTLY what TVR do to the standard 3.9 engine to get another claimed 60 BHP over the Range Rovers 180 bhp output. So far I know it involves changing the cam, raising the compression, matching the inlet manifold and ports (nothing radical methinks), TVR exhaust and rechip to provide more fuel and different air cleaner. The exact points are:

What cam (profile / duration or who makes it and their part number). I suspect its something like a 285' with the loss of midrange torque over the standard cam, and it will rev to 6000 rpm
Are the valve spings changed ?
Are the followers standard or "hi rev" type ?
Anything else Ive missed?

Thanks

erm...you'll struggle to to find a 3.9/4l engine that put out anywhere near what TVR claim in standard form, 195-215 seems to be very typical of a Chim/Griff engine. I've managed to get the output of my 4l engine just over the claimed 240hp by putting in a Typhoon cam, shortened trumpets, bulleted valve guides, upping the fuel pressure and rechipping as part of a full engine rebuild, and using several sets of piston rings to find the combination that fitted best.

Very few TVR RV8's have had serious head work at the factory. The cam is a TVR special, TVR51 springs to mind as a part number, i might be lying though? some engines got double valve springs, some didnt, as far as i know the lifters were standard.

Why not ring Dom @ TVR Power and ask him.

I'm sure he will happily discuss your requirements, and may offer to do the work for a price that you find acceptable.

It vary's depending on the year but basicaly a 4ltr is fitted with either a tvr 51 cam or the later ones (hc's) were fitted with tcr 435 cams, both had double valve springs, cr was standard range rover, actually a bit less on the later ones and that was about it!
