Local independent said that it does work, but you'd need to flush it out for the winter as it'll possibly keep the car too cool.

I opted for the 2-stage fan kit instead, and it's worked a treat.

it does what it says on the tin. On its own its probably not enough to worry about flushing the system for winter (only lowers about 5 degrees) but mine was running WW alongside a lower temp thermostat and otter switch, which was a bit too cold on winters days (cardboard over the rad anyone...)

Surely that's a personal choice?

Mine ran cooler with it, doesn't need it since I changed the otter switch.

Horses for courses.

It does what it says on the label so you should make your own decision as to whether your engine needs it.

That sounds like more or less complete rubbish to me. There are plenty of cooling system faults that will lead to overheating, but the only way the cooling system will keep the engine too cool is if the stat is missing or faulty.

I've not had problems with it in the winter.

Depends how much you put in of course as it still needs anti-freeze.

I've found it helps a little. Much cheaper on ebay than elsewhere.

normal cooling system works fine - if it doesn't there is something wrong - so fix it. This stuff is the same as slick50 ...snake oil

There have been some rather worrying suggestions that Water Wetter might not go down too well with silicone hoses, but apart from that there's nothing fundamentally wrong with using it. Cooling systems inevitably degrade with time as surfaces get covered with silt or corrosion, so the cooling system might be nominally OK but still not working as well as it did when it was all new. Water Wetter improves the heat transfer which can compensate for these gradual problems. If it means you can postpone that radiator replacement for a few years that's a good reason to use it in my book.

I have no reson to doubt the improved thermal transfer properties of water-wetting agents .. but i use it principally because it's surface-tension lowering action improves the coolant's ability to chase pockets of air out of cooling system crevices, this prevents localised overheating in cylinder heads and the hotter parts of the upper block area.

Water wetter should not be confused with snake oils, it really does do what's claimed for it.

bottom line is dont waste your money,if you feel you need to use this stuff its like looking for the cure not the cause,if a car, any car is heating up and you feel it needs this product you have got cooling issues be it rad to small, poor circulation whatever,as the saying goes you wont find the answer in the bottle.50/50 quality coolant and distilled water mix if your fussy, theres your WATER WETTER......

By that logic we don't really need pressure caps either, and two fans is overkill because one ought to be enough to keep it cool if everything is in tip top condition.

The simple truth is that there are various things you can do to help your cooling system work slightly more effectively, and if it's marginal then these things may be worth considering. Whether it's back flushing and descaling the radiator, or making sure the system is holding the pressure it is supposed to, or increasing the heat transfer capability of the water, or fitting a bigger rad or an extra fan. There's nothing wrong or silly about doing any of these things if it stops the engine overheating.

i very much doubt water wetter on its own is going to cure overheating all on its own,ive seen drag racing boys use crate engines in various cars with marginal cooling, also tuned pinto,s & xflow fords where the owners are looking for every benefit they can and this stuff as not never made a blind bit of difference if i speak too honest its because i know different,im not about to get into a slaging match i just dont like people being lead up the garden path,i thought that was the whole idea of this forum was to share our wisdom this post is going a bit like if i use the best quality engine oil should i put a can of engine treatment in too.im not some novice who knows a little bit about engine,s & as a tinker at the weekends do,you know what i mean.i,ve built many engines an come across problems like trying to improve cooling etc,but wetters bollox.its one of those products you use then kid yourself into thinking the gauge is showing a cooler temp,Ah yer tvr gauge really accurate like.Green V8S i respect most of your replys but your wrong about this one.anyway you can all make up your own minds and waste money your choice.Im alright jack is my opinion now i think.Snorky your on the money.

In my experience it does aid cooling Water Wetter will help a cooling system, but it will not solve overheating or protect a knackered system.

yes probably in the same way as coolant/antifreeze so just use that.....only my dimes worth it all boils down to the fact a RV8 engine turning out less HP per litre than a modern hatchback dosent need these wonder treatments, can we now stop misleading people who want to know if it will improve there chims cooling.

maybe one of the water wetter experts can give us a lesson on the dynamics of the coolant when its heated in the cooling system if we wait a while.
