Cam retaining plate
Discussion
I'm planning to replace the camshaft in my 1995 Chim in the near future. I was thinking of fitting a hurricane camshaft (as I don't want to do any other mods to the engine other than perhaps change the valve springs). However as my engine is a Serp type, with a camshaft retaining plate this camshaft will not fit with the plate in place. I have heard different opinions about how important this plate is, with some people saying it can just be left out and others saying it needs to be there (I also tend to think this as why was it added there in the fist place!). Anyone got any other views?
Another question - can the cam be modified so the plate can be fitted? If so can this be done simply on a lathe - as I have access to one (or someone who could perhaps do it for me).

Yes the cam can be modified to take the plate (I was in the same situation when I put in a Typhoon cam), most V8 engine people will be able to do it for you, IIRC you need to grind the groove as the metal is too hard to turn in a lathe. I think John Eales did mine for the guy for built my engine for me, he's got a program in his CNC machine already set up for adding the collar.
