Stupid question really, but I want to check that my alarm actually works. Ever since I bought the car I've never heard the alarm - the car immobilises sure enough but I'm just not sure that the alarm will go off if required.

I've sat in the car and armed the system, then wiggled & bounced about a bit but nothing happened.

Its the factory fitted standard alarm on a 97 Chim. When is it supposed to go off and what should trigger it?

Any help gratefully received.

Lock it with the targa panel off. Then lean in and try wiggling the gear stick and playing with the stereo.

That ought to do it...

The lights on mine certainly flash, but I've also never heard the alarm go off.

Even when I parked it open-topped in a garage under fluorescent lights, which made the lights flash every couple of minutes.

It was serviced a few months ago- isn't part of the service testing the alarm??

Park with the roof off, set the alarm as usual, give it ten minutes to settle, and then climb in. If the alarm doesn't go off it's not working or set up incorrectly.

The cat jumping in sets mine off every time!

Schmooze down to country pub with roof off and exhaust popping = £20 unleaded cloud9

Pull up in cloud of pebble dust to cheers from onlookers, park up and walk to outside table and join colleaues, order bottle of wine = £18 beer

Realise you forgot your smokes, lean in to car to retrieve....

.... alarm goes off in your face which is rapidly turning red....

PRICELESS paperbag

I think you need a new siren. It is behind the grill, try puting a 12 volt feed to it to test it. Make sure you remove the wires first.
