After all my moaning about my Chim being jinxed and that it's costing loads of money bla bla bla……..Well the new starter motor went in on Saturday and she roared into life again.

I can't sell her……………………………..As soon as I clasped my hands around the steering wheel and blipped the accelerator all her sins were forgiven.

She drives beautifully again and now she has a new clutch, new power steering and new starter motor it would be stupid to sell her.

Big thanks to my mate Mark Froggitt for helping with this weekends re birth of the old girl and thanks to all you guys and girls for making realise sense.

R673 SRV is off the market.

Glad to hear it, especially seeing as how little you were considering to let it go for!!!

I'm hoping to fall in love with mine again, it's hard after two breakdowns in two weeks, then finding all sorts of 'orrible things that I don't like. Including a lovely stagnant pool of water under the drivers seat this morning, the car smells like it's been cleaned with clotted milk ugh.

Yep. I can see the adoration coming back to me when Tivi is back to health.

Threats at times have felt serious but I'm a soppy sod and love her really. If she does play well and behaves again that is... Just hope I can afford to keep her.

I think it's fair to say that many owners weigh up the financial pros & cons when we think we're facing big bill time.

The problem here is, logic suggests that you have to get the car back to standard should you want to sell (or indeed keep).
Of course, as soon you drive it ,once all is well again, adoration returnscloud9.. and so the vicious cycle starts again..
God luv 'em.

My Chim has been leaking and I need to replace the carpets (Email Joanne at Coverdale UK as she quoted me £294.00 for a complete set excluding the door pieces) as even after TVR Gatwick did a water test and replaced all the rubbers it still fills with water.

The bad thing is the smell seems to attract cats from miles around so my Girlfriend has nicknames the car the "CAT WHISPERER".

Is there anything out there better then the Velcro strips as I think this is where the water is getting in?

have you weather proofed the hood, otherwise water can seep thru the fabric and seam like its the velcro thats at fault, only a thought.

Glad you are keeping her.

I had all sorts of problems with mine for the first few months of ownership and to be honest i think the only things i have not removed from the car to clean/fix/replace are the engine, gearbox, diff, steering rack and the seats!!!

Had a real nightmare with it and if it wasnt for the guys (and girls) on here for their advice and help it would have gone a long time ago!!!

And now my rear shocks have gone!!! time to get smash again!!!!

What is the best weather proofing out there and how easy (messy) is it to apply?

Use Thompson's Waterseal (same stuff you use on masonary) - dead easy to use. Just mask around the bodywork near the fabric, take the targa panel out (makes it easier and allows access to the tongue and groove) and put dustshhets to protect the interior from splashes. Dead easy to apply and not messy at all.

Without regualr proofing, water is likely to seep through the stitching. This would be the first thing I would address if I were in your position, OP.

Now that you're in love with your car again why not treat it to a Renovo application (or two) - that restores the colour and waterproofs at the same time. Then give it the Thompsons treatment every 3 months.

Where abouts does the water collect - front or rear of the floor pan - near or offside? Does it appear when the car's standing in the rain or when driven? There's quite a few potential points of entry, though across the velcro side fixing is not generally one of them.

It would be far more cost-effective to use the Renovo Colour Restorer once a year and do the job with the Thompson's quarterly. IME Renovo's proofer doesn't last as long as the (more expensive) renovo. Also, the Renovo proofer (not restorer, which AFAIK doesn't waterproof the hood) hasn't improved the colour of any hood I've put it on...
