For no other reason than curiosity...just wondering how many of you fellow Chimaera owners are also Landie owners?

In my opinion you can't get two more complimentary vehicles - both British built (mainly from the same parts bin), both timeless, both classless, both have 'interesting' build quality, both can leak water, both are real head turners in the street, both are HUGE amounts of fun to drive, and both are the coolest cars you could ever own.

Any photos of the two together?

My pair used to be a 450 + Series III LWB.

Its now a the same 450 + Defender 110.

Hi,
Yes, i have a lovely Chim 450, with a Range Rover V8 Vogue.
As you say, a perfect balance (but not terribly environmentally friendly.
Sorry about the picture quality, and YES, i know, "i'm a tart" (reference the number plates) but i don;t care laugh

Currently driving a 53 plate Mk II Disco TDi (Aircon hose blocked causing sodden carpets and '98 plat Chimaera that wont start due to suspect fuel pump/imbobiliser. Still love them both to bits and both are the second I've owned of each car (previously V8 S L/R and 4.0 Griff).

Ah, DJH, you are a man after my own heart - a blue TVR and a grey Landie. They don't come much better.

I always take the moral high ground about the environment - both TVRs and Landies last for years and years. Since most of the environmental damage is done manufacturing and disposing of a car, this makes them pretty green in my opinion. And unlike a hybrid Toyota - they don't need to come on gas guzzling ships from the far east.

Very nice indeed Barretti - now I'm jealous, I never got to take the hard top off my Series III.

Just glad to see there wasn't a tow rope between the two in your picture. Although a TVR towing a broken Landie...that would be good photo.

Is it just me or do you forget which vehicle you're in and wave to a fellow Landie you pass when you're driving the TVR? Or vice versa. Normally gets some confused stare back.

Ha ha, yes I have confused a couple of TVR owners when I've flashed my lights and waved at them.
Never done it the other way around though, I wonder if its the racing harnesses in the Landie which confuse me silly

You wouldn't believe the difference taking the roof off the Landie has had. Its so much lighter and 'chuckable'
It gets a bit hairy under braking though as the back wheels lock up really easily since there is no weight over them. Scares the hell out of people as a Landie bears down on them with the wheels screeching laugh

MMM at one point I had

Tasmin Race Car
Chimaera
Tuscan race car

3.9 Disco
td5 Disco
Siii swb trialer

and I swapped an early 2.25 90 county for the tasmin I built the taz racer from...

The 3.9Disco has just gone to Jamie at Castle race Engines, and I believe he had plans to put a 5ltr tvr motor in it evil

the Siii was given away yikes when i ran out of space hehe

sadly the 3.9 disco was replaced by a gaylander....

G

edited to say...

one day i came back to the chim to see a note on the windscreen with the name and address of a chap that had just caught the front wing with the wheel on his discovery avoiding an ambulance.... what did he also drive??? yep a griff 500. the poor chap was more gutted about it than I was hehe

I think the trev may struggle here !!! there are things it just cant do, but there are things that the trev can do, that most other cars can only dream of....

Me too. Chimaera and a nice red Defender 110 County Station Wagon (Td) with lots of those nice alloy bits! Are there any good websites/forums for Defenders?

Have a Chimaera & a V8 90 truck cab. Try LRO website/forum. Amazing how civilised a Land Rover can feel after driving the Chimaera, all light & easy to drive. Both great fun though.

Hi, I've got a chimaera and a 1959 series II short wheel base Landy with a 2.25 diesel. I've had the landy for 17 years, Had to leave it in a shed at my brothers farm for a while, I returned to it after 5 years, changed to battery and it started first time! Don't use her much now but she is very useful for taking stuff to the tip or pulling out the odd tree stump. Tax free, £75 fully comp insurance, cheap parts, easy to work on, never left me stranded. Many cars have come and gone but the Landy stays, she's part of the family, 47 years old and still going strong!
