Hi

I'm new to this game - I just bought my first TVR about a week ago. I'm now the proud owner of a 4L Chimaera and I'm scared that I've bitten off more than I can chew! I've never owned a performance car before (my last car was a Toyota MR2) and I'm only just coming to realise how much I don't know! I'm hoping to learn from the wealth of experience at PistonHeads.

So, first off - can anybody suggest a TVR specialist or an independant who knows what they're doing in the Lincoln area? I've a feeling that it would be handy to know where the nearest specialist is BEFORE I have my first problem!

(PS - I know you guys like photos - I'll get some on the site at the weekend)

Hi, I'll be keeping an eye out for the pics, I'll look out for you as I'm in Lincoln. I havn't used anyone in lincs for the TVR so I'll be interested in any responses.
I used to use 'paul goy racing' up monks road on my previous cars, I did see a TVR there once? This was a couple of years ago mind!

Thanks. I had a Mk3. I loved it. Loved the way i could just throw it about. Finding the Chim very hard work in comparison! At the moment, I feel like it's driving me more than I'm driving it! Hopefully that should improve a bit as I get more confident in it.

As for the pros of the Chim - there's a LOT more power (obviously) and of course the looks and the sound are stunnig!

Hi guys

Sorry for the long delay, but I eventually got round to taking some photos of the Chim. I've put them on my profile (via a link to webshots). I would have pasted them into this message, but I can't figure out how to do it! If you see me around Lincoln, give me a flash.

You'll have heaps of fun with your car - I went from a 1.4 fiesta to a 4ltr Chimaera!
Servicing is pretty straight forward but dealers can be expensive. Try to find a local garage that has some good knowledge. If your based near Chesterfield my partner runs a garage - Andy Moore Service Centre in Staveley (01246 473 444) we have quite a few Chimaeras come in he would be happy to give you advice any time.

I can recommend Dan Melladay in Skellingthorpe, he certainly knows his way around a Rover V8.

Now thats answered a question for me - who is Dan Melladay ! My Chim came with 6 service stamps from him and I can say that she's an absolute minter , very well looked after so I would agree he must know what he's doing.

Hi bigdods,
Your chim looks like RToy's old car, it was looked after by Dan Melladay for a number of years and yes, it is a minter. That is down to RToy who is meticulous about his cars and Dan who is excellent and real good value (if we keep saying this he'll put his prices up!)
You've got yourself a real cracker.

Hi crimpdoc,
PG is an old friend of mine and an excellent engineer

Dan Melladay at Skellingthorpe, Bridge Garage, looks after a number of TVRs, does an excellent job on V8s or V6s and is very reasonable and a nice bloke.
Hope to see you about.
Ray

I might be 2 pots short of an 8 pack but I'll get you through the twisty bits!!!!

It is indeed RToys old car - but now with a lot more mileage on ! Still mechanically a minter - every time it goes for a service they comment on the good condition of the chassis etc... I have tried to continue the good work :-)

So thats where shes gone. Hi there bigdods. V pleased to know that your'e happy with my, (well your) toy. Gave me 5+yrs good reliable service and sure that you will get the same. Was really genuinly sorry to see her go but the tuscan i picked up next day cheered me up a bit Any thing that you need info on regarding history and stuff please feel free to ask.
And yes Dan Meladay looked after her well, and saved me a packet aswell. Going to have to get him into speed 6 servicing next.
Regards Dave.

Aha ! We meet at last. All this time later Im still loving the toy ;-) You'll be pleased to hear that apart from the usual replacement bits (driveshaft gaiters, coil and leads, 100Amp fuse) Ive had to spend hardly a penny. A very good investment from my point of view ! Saving up for some Gaz Golds now, and a full respray as shes stone chipped to hell at the front and has picked up a lot of scratches - but thats a price Im willing to play for using it regularly :-)
