Please could someone advise what hot and cold and idle oil pressures are supposed to be in a 4.6 Chimaera (1997, 41,000 miles)

Many Thanks

dont trust the standard gauge though, mine shows 15 idle 30 fast idle, when in fact the true reading is 23 idle 42 fast idle.TVR stock gauges mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

i did hear someone say this is available from speedy cables in london,i think its TVR specific rather than landrover,i may be wrong about supplier though.

Same on my 4L. Hardly seems to register at idle on a hot day!

My one is the same. Almost non existent when hot. Been checked numerous times but is deemed ok?

Just had my sensor replaced and the cruise value has increased from 30 to 45. Idle was 10 now nearer 25-30psi. It is a Caerbont sensor on mine. I think these vary a lot, it's a change in characteristic that's important to note rather than the actual value.

Thanks- is it possible to check oil pressure any other way by attaching a temporary gauge, in case the TVR gauge is wrong?

steve if your not too far from us pop it down and i can put a compiliry gauge on it to check it? the low figures above in previous threads are probably pre serp engines, i know if i had a serp engine that was registering below 15 psi hot i would be very worried!

Just replaced my oil pressure sender cost £12.00 something from the old TMS dealership in melton mowbury they have some in stock,Replaced mine as it was weeping oil, strange??? new readings now 15/20 psi more over full rev range stead at 45+ psi most of the time.Nice to know I've now got a true pressure reading and a good engine.

Mine gives around 25-30 hot idle and about 45-50 the rest of the time, this is since having the sender changed, before it used to drop worryingly low when on hot idle. Had the system checked and new sender fitted, been much happier with the readings since.

As per V8 racing, Think yours will be a pre-serp'. Same readings that I had on my pre-serp' Griff'.

Paul, have you tried a wet gauge on it, Craig may have one. That should show exactly what you have if you've concerns.

I have followed this thread with interest. I was a bit concerned that my guage was showing 30PSI when driving hot but less than 10PSI at hot idle. After the postings here I visited an Indie garage today and had the oil pressure sender replaced. Hey Presto - instant oil pressure. Now showing 45PSI at 3000 rpm hot and 30PSI at hot idle. I don't know what the cold figures are yet I've been too busy having fun on this perect Tiv driving day Money well spent. Thanks to all those who have contributed to this thread.

Is the oil pressure sender a Land Rover item? Does anyone know the part number?
Regards, Robin.
