I want to fill in the six holes in the floor pan of the boot, which lye between the fuel tank and the back of the boot. I get alot of diff and road noise from them. Can anyone tell me why they are there?

They are there as the outlet for the through ventilation in the car the 2 circular vent holes in the rear passenger compartment bulkhead act as the air outlet and run in front of the petrol tank,if you get a lot of diff niose it might be low on diff oil, sometimes missed at service particularly if thr finned type as difficult to get at the filler plug. Had my diff repaired by a supposed expert in Hinckley unfortunately did not replace lost oil just added 500 mm tonight will not be using him again!!!.

What holes? If you've got 6 x holes each 2" in diameter in the boot floor that's odd!

Many people block these bulkhead vents with rear speakers and absolutely no problems. confused

No its perfectly normal, the holes are right in the corner where the rear bulkhead meets the boot floor, 3 each side of the tank, usually with a baffle piece between them and the main boot. The're supposedly there as part of the cabin vent path, but has been mentioned this is often blocked by speakers.

Oh, I misunderstood the guy. He made it sound like they are cut into the boot floor (as opposed to bulkhead). I know about the holes in the rear bulkhead. But it's all rubbish anyway because you can put your hand right from the inside of the cabin behind the door and over the wheel arch right into the boot space so it's clearly not air-tight.

Iain, didn't realise this, but then again I've got a Griff, perhaps for some reason they only cut holes in the boots of Chimaeras? p.s. as you may have gathered I don't have much time for this "cabin air-vent" thing - it may have been someone at TVR's idea initially but if you think about it it's daft. Rich...

The holes also let the fuel drain conveniently out of the boot when the fuel return line perishes ...
