Chimaera 400 HC 1998. Has anyone experienced a strong fuel smell coming from the car after being on a run. Smell is very strong but don't have fuel leaks anywhere and car performance is as normal.
Hot starting suddenly seems to be more difficult aswell and the car has never missed a beat before.

may be worth checking around and underneath plenum area for fuel leaks, when you switch the car off when its been running the fuel rail is still pressurised with fuel this is to stop the fuel perculating in the fuel rail when the car is hot(heat soak),if this happens then car will be hard to start when hot(cranks over but dont fire)this may be your problem,to check the fuel hoses front to rear see if a friendly garage will put it on there ramp.also check fuel cap & emission canister hoses.good luck.

Check check and check again for fuel leaks, especially in the enigne bay. Fuel evaporates very quickly and you may not see the leak after a long run becasue it has all evaportated away, I've been caught out by this in the past and it's not a nice position to be in.

Iain

Hi Neil, check on my profile - forums - "fuel spraying in the engine bay" - you will see a picture which was taken when my car was leaking fuel. You will see that its the fuel rail which is directly under the stepper motor. In the end I got a new clip and replaced the old one on the rubber pipe. HTH thumbup

neil i think that hose clip is good advice, that would explain how when i purchased mine someone had renewed said clip and left the old one rattling around on the fuel rail maybe this is common, shows that more heads are better than one...

Something else to consider - on my V8S the fuel hose is routed down the tunnel and passes quite close to the #8 header, it's vulnerable to heat damage here which can lead to a porus hose and eventually a catastrophic failure. Even if this isn't the problem this time, it's worth putting some insulation between the two. Just an extra layer of hose slit lengthways and held on with zip ties would be worth while.

Could it be the carbon canister blocked?
