Difference between pre and post 97 Chimaeras
Discussion
Hi guys
Soon I will buy my new (used) chimaera. Now my question is what's the difference between a pre and post 97 model. I would have a 95 chimaera für 20k and a 99 for 25k. Both are very well equipped and TVR-serviced. What would your decission be? Both are 5l.
Thanks for your help!

£20k for a 95
£18,750 for a 97
That seems a bit steep, TVR's don't really stick to an exact spec change date, but the main differences you will probably spot are.........
95 door pushes on rear wings instead of under mirrors, fiesta rear lights instead of bespoke round units, mesh grill in front instead of open appeture.
There are of course other slight differences which I'm sure someone will point out

Not bespoke, land rover items

Engine and gear box changed too, do a search there's plenty of info on this, but basically the the later engine is a "serpentine" (so called because of the fan belt) and has a different (allegedly stronger) gearbox
Anyone figure out what price this one is s'posed to be then?
69,000 ???? if it's euros that works out at £47k if it's Swiss Francs it's £32k
The round light bits maybe Landrover/chiefton bits but as a light cluster it's unique to TVR as apposed to being a Ford/Vauxhall light cluster

I think the biggest changes happened in 96. and go somthing like this
Revised front grill, bonnet, boot lid and rear bumper
griff 500 brakes and chassis
rear roll bar mountings
dial changes
dash switchgear changes
serpentine engine
Borg warner T5 gearbox instead of Rover
door buttons first when key less then moved to mirrors.
98ish the rear lights changed to military screw on fittings :YIKES:
then the boot hing changed.
you get all sorts of combinations i.e. my late 96 has
griff chassis and brakes( well untill i changes to willwood 4 pots), later body, keyless buttons in wing
half old and half later dash and switches. serpentine engine, T5 gearbox.. Fiesta rear lights.

Agreed, far too expensive!
A year ago I sold my 4.0l 97/P Chimaera on here for £13,800!
Differences I know are:-
Door release buttons in rear wing / door release buttons under wing mirrors.
3 buttons on dash for lights / 1 button which you twist.
Rear number plate back lit / rear number tilted and lit from above.
Mesh grill / open grill
Can't think of anything else?

Yes it's Zurich, therfore LHD and there is only 1 dealer in this small country![]()
Therefore not much of a choice. Sadly enough I'm talking £.Importing TVR's to Switzerland is not that easy as we are not in the EU.
Thanks for your help!
