Hi There

Does anyone know what fuse (if any) protects the central locking system (or is there a fuse with the Central locking relay under the dash board?)

Problem is as follows (last of 450s)

Driver’s door would not lock

Checked solenoid behind Velcro panel and sure enough the solenoid was not operating (sticking)

Moved it by hand a few times and it started working

Pushed central button a few times to make the solenoid work and give it a test

After several successful pushes, both door locking solenoids stop working (dam).

I can still hear the central relay operating (small click from dash).

Tried disconnecting battery to reset alarm (incase it was a confused as me)

Help - any ideas please

I could tell you where the fuse was in mine, or where it says it is in the bible but I think you're best off just checking them all. It's quicker in the long run!

It's 15amp as I recall YTVRMV (your TVR may vary).

The only other thing to check are the push switches in the door shuts. If they're okay then it sounds like one of the solenoids is dodgy, luckily they're easy to change.

Had a problem with my door closing, the opening mechanism shunt switch in driver's door had corroded so replaced, door switch off mk 3 vectra,if I remember, but just 1 philips screw holding it in place so easy to remove, be careful extracting as 2 connecting wires not that generous in length, cost around £6.00 from vauxhall dealer, now O.K.

Just discovered a 10 Amp fuse in the central locking control module. This unit is under the dash check my topic listed "central locking" for a description of the symptoms I was getting.

Checked your thread Monkey Boy - it looks like a similar fault - I will check it out - how do you get the dash top off?

Well - strange as it may seem it was both door motors that failed at the same time!

Tried a new relay and it made no difference and as far as I can find out there are no fuses under the dash.

Getting dash top off was a lot easier than I expected (after reading all the threads) but I did cut off all the screw points that stick through (the back of my hands now look like I have been practicing some strange marshal arts).

Thanks to everyone for their replies

When you said you changed the relay did you have a separate module? Mine a dedicated plastic box contained six relays, not to be confused with the small relay panel by the side of it. You say both door soleniods failed at the same time, I'd be looking for a lost supply or bad earth.

Under dash panel, my car has (reading from left to right)

Alarm
Door relay
Module with a series of relays (2 of which are yellow and control the door buttons under the mirrors)

But - no fuses!
I have checked the door locking motors (they are geared motors, not solenoids really) off the car and they are both knackered, so yep, strange as it may be, both door locking motors failed at the same time (I guess they have both had the same amount of use - or in fact suffered from lack of use as my car is seriously under used). I don't lock it in the garage at home in case the battery goes flat and I have only managed 10000 miles in 5 years since I bought it new.

I was impressed though, as there were no loose modules floating about under the dash as reported in some cars - my modules are all firmly double sided Velcro’ed down. I guess TVR got better as they built cars, and I think mine was the last car built!

Cheers
