Removing pre-cats?

I have been told that it can be a bit of a mare to remove the pre-cats from a chim, has anyone got any bright ideas on how to remove these if the are still in place and not perished at all?

Do what i did, remove the manifolds, mark across the cat section, then cut them on the seam exposing the cat, pull it out realign the markings and weld up and refit, job done .
