Stick With Rover V8 Power?
Discussion
While on the subject of noise, I would like the opinion of other members on this matter.
AS we all know part of owning and enjoying a TVR is the amount of noise the vehicle makes, the problem is that any new TVR (TVR own engine), does not make the grade when compared to the Rover V8 variant. In fact
I backed off from buying a Cerbie because I thought it sounded like a rattly old combine harvester.
Why TVR never used the quad cam Mustang engine is a mystery to me, at least there would have been a nice deep traditional V8 rumble from it. No offence to Cerbie owners intended, I actually think the Cerbie is the best looking of the bunch.

The quad cam mustang is heavy and wide. Earlier engines had iron blocks but current engines are all aluminium and no doubt somewhat lighter. The Chevrolet LS1 is all alloy and bigger displacement and for a number or reasons IMHO, is a much better bet but I won't labour the point here. The other option is the Northstar but again it's wide and smaller capacity. It's also hard to modify because of it's computer controlled cams. I am about to try fitting an LS1 into a chimera so in a while I shall post on the results.

It's because the LS1 is a better, modern and bigger engine with GM reliability, a proven track record and a very bright future ahead of it. Just look around at the tuning options already available and it's only a few years old. Stock LS1 heads are reputed to outflow modded big block heads etc. It won't be cheap but it is better IMHO.
