Hi all

I am lookinmg to have my own bespoke dash manufactured over the winter. Does anyone know of a template or drawing that is available for the dash?

Alternatively does anyone have an old damaged one kicking about for sale or loan?

By the way it's a 98 4.5l, the newer one with a single rotary switch for the lights.

Many thanks

I bought a knackered set to send off to have re-veneered so I could swap over in one day - I paid £50 for the knack'd set so would sell mine for the same....email me if interested.

Thanks Snorky

I am only looking to get the template to have a new one made.

Don't really want to spend that money and then have 2 sets surplus.

Thanks anyway I'll keep it in mind.

Spluffy,

Where about's in Yorkshire are you? I've got my old dashboard knocking around in the garage if you want to borrow it? Swapped it for a Leven one earlier.

PM me and I could post it to you, or even cheaper (for a typical Yorkshire man) meet up and lend it to you...

Many thanks for the template.

I have spent all evening transfering the dimensions from the template to Autocad. And it's now ready to do a test plot for accuracy.

The next step is a friend of mine who happens to have a laser cutting business. Also one of our sister companies deals in the most fantastic array of stainless & aluminum sheet in so many different finishes and colours.

Watch this space for a totally unique dash.

Thanks again Rich.

Hey, will a laser cut sheet carbon fibre by any chance? I am looking to change my dash and although i can get hold of carbon fibre sheet it is a bugger to cut apparently without splitting and delaminating the edges.

Any help would be appreciated.

My plan is as follows.

After seeing the fantastic array of materials available. Fabricate my own individual bespoke dash like no other. Not just a polished / patterned stainless, but something very very special.

If all goes well I will be happy to help anyone who wishes to do the same. However I am not interested in making them for profits. But will gladly have any particular available material / design manufactured to your requirements at cost.

Keep watching this space.

The template has now been checked on Autocad for acuracy, and is absolutley spot on.

The first laser cut will be ready next week (in standard stainless steel) for phisical checking.

I have kept the layout of the dash exactly as original as for me this is laid out perfect. What I'm looking at is the various "special" materials that are available.

At the moment we have the standard wallnut (which I love), stainless (1 or 2 polish patterns), carbon fibre, and matching leather covered. I would like to experiment further.

Also I can now take any flat item, and transfer it electronically to the laser cutting machine. All I need is a template. The possibilities are endless.

Watch this space! or post your idea's

hmmmm... I'd like perspex/polycarbonate... a nice shade of off-white cream and not too thick, then I can backlight the whole dashboard bounce

Progress update

Just collected the 1st laser cut of the new dash. Brushed stainless. Just to see how accurate the cut is. I am pleased to say it is an exact matched cut, to the template kindly donated by Richard Wood (I owe you one).

I have discussed material types with the profiler, and the next step is a test cut on some of the more fancy materials. Coloured, rigidised stainless / alluminium for starters.

Joking apart the possibilities are endless, and if you do really wany a perspex dash to backlight. Anything is possible.

I am now confident that I can reproduce vertually any flat dash panel or any other flat item. The work is in converting from the template into a computer drawing and programming it into the laser cutting machine.

I would still appreciate your thoughts or ideas

Did this ever work out?? I'm looking to get a dashboard replacement for a 97 450 of some sort pretty soon, so either getting one cut out or just getting the autocad template would be awesome... Do you still have the template spluffy??
