Chimaera Air Cond

I live in Malaysia and have 4 litre Chimaera. The air cond has never worked properly since i had the car, sometimes it was very cold and then after 20 minutes of driving it just blows out warm air. Some people said it ices up some said it is getting too hot. The service people said it had a leak they fitted it then regassed it and it went fine for about 3 weeks now it only blows warm air absolutely no cold air. Anyone have any ideas given the motor size and cabin size it should be freezing

My guess would be that you have a leak. Either the garage failed to fix it (depends where it was leaking from) or you have a new leak. This assumes that the compressor is working OK - clutch activated when switched on etc.

sounds like you may have a leak - mines been back three times and the final time my garage put in the "aircon equivalent of radweld". Apparently mine was passing their ten minute vacuum test, but degassing in about three weeks too.

Also, check that when you request aircon from the dashboard controls, that you hear two clicks in quick sucession. I think the two relays are on the loose wiring loom in the footwell.

When the garage checks for a leak under a vacuum they should also do a pressure check using OFN (oxygen free nitrogen). As under a vacuum the seals can be pulled in and prevent a leak.
The next step should be to add a dye to the refrigerant when it is recharge if the system leaks again a UV light source can then be used to see where the leak is.
